I think that any changes to JavaHL will largely be driven by request.
There is no effort under way to just expand the API without anyone asking
to do so. It would certainly start making it more complex and remove some
of the "High Level" aspects to it. That does not mean there is not room
to add some other features that make sense. I'd like to see some of these
added to JavaHL if you want to work on a patch.
