Am I missing the point?
Do you want checkout to overwrite whatever local files might be
present, not merge with them?

In that case the extension of checkout (vs. a new command) makes much
more sense to me, and also the statement I made above would be wrong.

(--takeover would be a misnomer IMHO, --force if any would be more appropriate.)
