We "screwed up" when we provided an option that broke the ABI. I'm
proposing another option that will "screw up" those who ignored the
first "screw up". If they choose to use the new option they will have
to rebuild, just as they would have had to rebuild when they chose the
first option. If things were really to be on an equal footing then we
would require a configure option to enable APR > 0.9.x, but since you
got your "screw up" in first it gets enabled by deafult :)
