Could a compromize be:
 * Allow to remotely ADD and DELETE properties
 * Do not allow to EDIT properties remotely

That could be seen as the property's counterpart of adding and
deleting folders remotely. I admit, deleting a property is not as
visiable as deleting a file, but at least it would not overwrite
existing property values with new ones.
Well, at least ADDING a new property remotely should not cause any harm.

And as far as I understand the original requestor, he only needs a way
to ADD a new property to a folder.
