Our compatibility policy demands that this be considered a bug.

Our release policy allows for certain bugs to be considered
showstoppers.

What constitutes a showstopper appears to be up for discussion, but we
have historically agreed on certain broad categories (like
SEGFAULTs).

In my opinion, a compatibility bug like this is a showstopper.
