Yes, it is a bugfix, but it needed API changes (which currently are
already on trunk and thus in 1.3). I say that to stipulate how
complex the fix actually is.

Which is exactly why I have to agree with Ivan (you have no idea how
much I hate to say this!), but it can't go into a minor release. This
change *really* needs soaking.
