Well, it seems to be a serious problem for you or your boss, but to everyone
else that sentence is about the same as "Note that a lung is useless when no
air is present."

I do understand your problem: you think that the behaviour of Office to only
lock for a few minutes is a big problem when you want to make changes
offline. But the very same problem is present when you'd like to make a big
change that takes two working days and switch your PC off when you go home
(or close Office): the lock expires and someone who is doing late hours can
happily commit his own version because there is no lock. But this is a
problem with Office, not SubVersion. Maybe there's a way to tell Office not
to use a timeout with WebDAV locks, I don't know, but that would be the way
to go. Have you searched MSDN ?
