Well, for once it seems that Greg Hudson and I agree. Hear, hear! :-)

I think that relying on certain limits for HTTP headers is a
non-starter. Whilst Justin's back-of-the-envelope estimate of being able
to send 5000 tokens in the headers seems large by most standards, it
does rely on admins not reducing those limits.

On the other hand, if Justin's idea about not having to send the tokens
in the MERGE request at all actually fiies, I'd be in favour of trying
to do i that way. IOW, I think it would be nice it we could stay with
the standard requests, but am totally opposed to sacrificing any
performance in order to do so.
