I think this is a *great* idea -- but if we're going to do it, why not
go all the way?

Let's just do a "-beta" release for every tarball. That way testing
is not limited to those who are comfortable building from a
checked-out tree. Anyone could download the beta tarball and test it.

Thoughts? (From breser especially?)
