Okay, the worst symptoms (crash, etc) are fixed in r11876. There is
still a deeper problem here, about how non-recursive (-N) working
copies are reported to the server for update and status. See
http://subversion.tigris.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=2122 for details.

I think you don't have to worry about those deeper problems for your
usage. Status will still report some paths that it (perhaps)
shouldn't report, but it shouldn't crash anymore.
