Okay, that does it then. I think just about everyone participating in
this thread agrees that we should punt on directory locks for now, and
just get file locks working. We can revisit the idea directory locks
later on if we need to.

I'm going to update the func-spec and ui-spec, then start a new thread
about implementation details.
