So Fitz and I have been working on these two new documents for the past
couple of weeks, mostly distracted with other things. Our hope was to
create something well-thought and tangible to discuss, debate, shoot
down, improve. The last time we tried to design locking, the
discussion came to a halt because of 1.1 release distractions, and
because we were waiting for Branko to send an ACL funcspec. I'm trying
to move forward again with these new docs.

In any case, don't be too intimidated. The first doc you should read
is the functional spec. It tries to describe just the features we
want, without going into UI or implementation specifics too much. Then
look at the UI document... in particular, look at the philosophy in the
beginning of the document -- it discusses some case-studies of VSS and
Clearcase that are I think are important to our own UI.

A third document which describes implementation ought to be written,
but hasn't yet. I think we have plenty to discuss with just these two
existing docs!
