Something like that, yes. Others have compared it to NFS or SMB over
HTTP, because most operating systems allow you to "mount" a webdav share
as a regular disk.

A bit off-topic for this list. Go to http://www.webdav.org and read all
about it. Go crazy. Then read Appendix C in the Subversion Book to
learn about exactly how Webdav relates to Subversion.
