I wouldn't be opposed to the idea, but I don't personally wish to put forth
the effort here when GNU gettext already works on most of our platforms and
some OSes already provide passable variants by themselves. *shrug*

I don't think there are any platform-specific hoops that we're going to have
to jump through in the code itself - only perhaps in the build systems; but
that should be squared away now for the most part - except for Win32. --
