That should have been handled by mkdir-init. Not sure why that's not working
for you.

Regardless, as of the just-committed r8886, I did some cleanups on the build
system. Once you install the Java 1.4.2 Development kit from ADC to get the
JNI headers, you can then run 'make javahl install-javahl' and ./configure
will now emit warnings if the JDK installation isn't suitable for javahl.
