I'm not sure that it is an objection, but spooling the report into a file
doesn't quite sit right with me. I'll have to ponder on why that is; I
can't really articulate it well right now.

The original post mentioned removal of dir_delta. There is the call in
mod_dav_svn/update.c, libsvn_repos/reporter.c (which you tossed), and a
third in libsvn_repos/dump.c. So the point about being able to toss
dir_delta isn't quite there yet (in fact, it never was since there is
still at least one other spot).

Hmm.... interesting stuff.
