It works after running autogen.sh, yes.

It works out of the box with the Subversion 0.37 tarball though, but
maybe that was created on a different machine than the 1.0.0 tgz.

This is with the sunfreeware version of gcc 3.2.2. It's the same on
Solaris x86 and sparc.
