Good point (of course, these packaging changes are easy to revert or
tweak, so no big deal).

Maybe I misunderstood David's change, but it looks to me like he's
just making it easier for the RPM-building system to work conveniently
with Subversion's (projected) version numbering system. That doesn't
seem like a bad thing, regardless of our branching strategy for
releases.
