I'm very eager that the Perl interface changes be completed in time for 1.0;
sounds like you are going to miss 0.35.0 by a little, so it is going to be
harder to get +3 to apply to 1.0...

If you have a way to distribute your changes (without having to burden the
list), I will do what I can do test it. I can even host a semi-public
repository with your changes, if that would help (i.e. you and clkao have write
access, all others can only watch in horror/delight).
