I think I understand what you're saying. Your complaint is that the
simple act of building and installing a post-7674 Subversion will
render Subversion's own source working copy unaccessible by old
clients because even though you didn't intenionally run the new client
on your Subversion working copy, 'make install' did this (effectively,
via svnversion) anyway.

That said, yes, this Friday night (or Saturday morning, I should say)
is far too valuable for this topic. Stop your fussing, you big
baby. :-)
