Java SWIG Bindings

I apologize if this has come up lately, I've looked back thru the
archives quite a bit, but can't find anything too recent, and the search
mechanism is a bit unwieldy (can't sort by date).

So, my question. What is the current state of the swig java bindings?
Looking in the repository, it seems like the low level stuff is there,
but the higher level access is just getting started. Is this accurate?
Is there anything not in the trunk I should know about? Is anyone
working on it actively? I'd like to put in a little work toward it in
the hopes of maturing it enough that some other java/subversion projects
I like might consider using it, plus I'd like to learn some about the
inner workings of subversion, learn about swig, and brush up on my C.
