I have committed a patch which updates two copies of the FAQ (one in the book and one in www/project_faq.html) in r6962. At least they now refer to a single place where the syntax is described, in chapter 2. But it still describes "|" as an alternative to ":", and it seems that that is no longer supported. I get the feeling it's been removed on purpose, but no-one has really confirmed that yet.

So there's probably a further change still to do: replace the bit about the "|" syntax with a note that says why it's not available even though it was common in some browsers - or whatever.
