Definitely. For example, I remember when pll was first testing a
release tarball, his 'make check' was failing in a really unexpected
place, but mine wasn't. It turned out to be something weird, like the
fact that he had 'diff3-cmd' set in his ~/.subversion/config, and I
didn't.

It would be great if we can remove *all* possible variables like this
when running 'make check'.
