IMHO, Which version of BDB is none of the client's business. How a
server or (FS) chooses to implement a contract is its business.
I'm OK with a "server version request" that passes a detail string back
for display. But not if this information gets used programmatically.
What if the FS is SQL based, file system based, implements archiving, etc.
