As an aside, I think the problem with Derek's system is poor system
administration or poor choice of peripheral hardware, not a fundamental
problem with AIX or the H50. This said as someone who's done AIX since
1991 and Linux since 1997. Now it is true that you'll pay through the
nose for a proprietory UNIX box but the system architechture (system
'bus' (really switches these days), IO bridges, memory paths) are much
better than your commodity Intel box.

(who regularly gets 250 GB/hr (70 MB/s) backups on some of his fluffier
SAP R/3 instances, and hasn't finished tuning the disk layout yet :-)
