Argh. This is exactly what I was afraid of. Does anyone else see a
problem with making this a needlessly complex installation process for
first time users or is it just me? If it's just me I'll drop the whole
thing.

I'm a firm believer that everything should work by default and if the
user wants to customize something, then let them do it. If they know
they want something customized, they are probably technically capable
enough to do it.
