 i saw these treated as errors a while back when we tried to build svn on
 AIX with the xlc compiler (i think that's what it was called), but i
 don't have easy access to such a machine, so i haven't had a chance to
 try to fix the problem.
 
I've seen the warnings from GCC when I applied one of those ridiculously long
CFLAGS settings that Zack suggested to catch all warnings.
