Has any of the intrepid readers here done this for Mandrake 8.x?

I will be getting a new Mandrake box in the next month or so, purely so
that I have a spare box on which to experiment. But in the meantime, I have
a box running 8.1 that I would love to be able to try subversion on -- but
it's a production box (running a 1.3.X Apache) so I want to be sure that I
don't break anything else on it by installing subversion (recognizing, of
course, that subversion itself is more or less experimental at this point).

A couple of weeks ago I got partway through the manual installation
instructions, but when it started talking about building a 2.x Apache, I
decided that that sounded too dangerous to be doing on a production box
with an already-running Apache.
