Ah, yes, I ahould've explained a bit:

1) Making rename an atomic operation is a pre-requisite for fixing the merge
functionality, as explained in Bill Tutt's proposal (not that I'm not talking
about merge _history_, just the behaviour of merge WRT added and renamed files).
I believe we should do our best to get that done for 1.0.

2) Any major change (which this is) that's targeted for 1.0 should be in Beta,
otherwise there's no chance it can be stabilized for 1.0.
