[patch] unconfuse libtool for dynamic build

libtool was choking on the dynamic build of
subversion/clients/cmdline. The levels of retreat weren't matching up
with the values libtool had previously stashed in the .la files when
linking the other libraries.

The attached patch fixes this by using absolute paths for linking,
this orphaned the _retreat_dots method so I removed that too.
