Eventually you will have to hand out fully functional releases/tarballs.
Without creating them now (from time to time) you will end up with a lot
of configure/build/install bug reports because

1. no developer will ever have started from scratch,
2. no non-developer will have had the chance to test your releases.

IMO you are missing a chance here.
