APPDATA is actually user specific. (But that is not necessarily an
advantage... If I have to select between user specific and system wide
configuarion, then I surely select system wide. Maybe this comes from the
typical usage of windows)

no, USERPROFILE is more likely exists. The problem with it, that we need the
APPDATA directory not the USERPROFILE directory. I mention that some
software does not bother with this.

that is true. (but if you follow the windows style, then this question will
never occur :-))
