Compare, for example, /usr/lib/locale/en_US/LC_TIME with
/usr/lib/locale/en_GB/LC_TIME. Unfortunately, these are binary formats,
but you should be able to easily pick out the different date format
strings (%m/%d/%Y vs %d/%m/%y) near the end of the locale files.

Does anyone know off-hand if GNOME or KDE provide a GUI
locale-configuration/customization utility?
