Have you considered eventually migrating the masters to XHTML? You could do
that with relatively little effort, and with some care, I believe most
browsers will display the XHTML, as is, quite well. Worst comes to worst it
would only require trivial XSLT stylesheets to produce HTML + CSS (or you
could apply CSS to the XHTML directly). XHTML also opens up a lot more
options for other formats, or at least doesn't limit what you can already
do. Speaking on behalf of Apache FOP, we're always looking out for
documentation sets that could be used as technology demonstrators - if you
guys had masters in XHTML, we could work up XSLT relatively easily to
produce PDF, PostScript, PCL etc with FOP (and of course there are other XSL
formatters also; the current XSL specification is produced from XML by the
RenderX XEP formatter, for example). Just a thought.
