Agree, at least for 1.0. Ben's writing the new autoconf test right
now. (He's also inquiring on some BSD lists about why they decided
not to go with GNU patch and diff, in case there's some chance of
getting it changed. I mean, as far as we can tell, BSD has lost some
functionality by this decision.)
