It wasn't my scenario. I was trying to describe how to address a
requirement raised on the list.

As to why I refer to DCMS, I do so for two reasons:

1. I want to be explicit that I am not describing something in SVN. This
helps to avoid confusion on the part of other readers, and simply seems like
an appropriate courtesy.

2. I think better and describe better in specific examples. There is nothing
to stop you from using the solution I proposed in other systems if you wish
to, assuming that the system supports it.

Finally, I think that some of the discussion about the differences between
DCMS and SVN has been useful -- the whole line of discussion about SHA-1
hashes comes to mind.

Take the ideas you find useful. Try not to get hung up on the labels.
